After South Kihei Road and the Pi'ilani Highway give way to Wailea Alanui, the true glory of South Maui begins to show itself. This is Wailea, one of the most breathtaking resort communities in the world. The air is scented with plumeria, the beaches (all of them public-access) are white sand, and the resorts are architectural wonders.

A short five minutes later you arrive at the Makena State Park turn-offs. All three of these turnouts lead to large parking lots from which we walk down to Makena’s Big Beach, thought by many as the best beach on the island. It’s clothing optional cousin, Little Beach is just over the lava flow at the north end & is accessible via a small foot trail. Both these beaches offer great fun for all and are excellent snorkeling and skimboarding beaches, along with the usual sunbathing and family gathering spots. If you crave the world's finest beaches then Makena's big and Little beach are a must see!
